Yoga means union, or connection. It is an ancient and evolving scientific art that merges body, mind, and spirit through movement, breath, and awareness. India is the birthplace of yoga, where it has been practiced over thousands of years as a means to experience vibrant health and oneness with all that is. It was introduced to Western culture relatively recently, resulting in many different styles of yoga. Hatha yoga is a general term used to define any style of asana (postures), the physical practice most people think of when they hear the word yoga.
Really, yoga is the way you co-participate in life. It is the awareness with which you live, and practices that help you enjoy life to the fullest. It is not a religion, but a spiritual path; one which has space for your personal beliefs. Yoga asks you to think and feel, to breathe and move, to be still and listen.
